Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is possibly one of the most influential events of the decade and is easily the best tour of our generation. It has become apparent to not only Swifties but nearly any person in the past few months that this tour and Taylor’s music affects not only her fans, but everyone.
Completely taking over social media algorithms and music streaming services, Swift’s influence can no longer be ignored. The Eras Tour began March 17 and currently has dates set out all over the world until its concluding performance set for December 2024. The incredible performances that Swift has been able to put on over her years of touring can always be described as show-stopping. Some examples of this in the Eras tour are when she dives into the stage, giving the illusion of diving into water. Also the trees that seem to grow out of the ground, and fire shooting up from the stage as she sings.
She knows how to appeal to a crowd, and this tour was no different. Being able to perform for over 3 hours with a setlist including 43 songs is certainly out of the question for other performers/artists. “There’s nothing in history to compare. This is her best tour ever, by an absurd margin,” Rolling Stone said.
It also is a fact that The Eras Tour has positively impacted the economy of every state that Swift visits. With her appearance at each stadium, the entire city bustles with tourists in need of hotel rooms, food and merchandise. Not only do people go to their concert dates with the intention of buying Swift’s merch for the tour, but due to the traveling so many people have endured to hear their favorite artist live, many enjoy the change in location by site-seeing and trying new restaurants or stores in the area of their show.
Time Magazine estimates that the Eras Tour will generate nearly $5 billion in consumer spending in only the US. This is recognition towards how hard Swift worked to plan her outstanding performance and bring her talent to so many stadiums. The tour recently being turned into a movie has also drawn in fans, receiving a well-deserved 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The concert production is most likely the most impressive part. Swift’s background vocalists, dancers, and team that helps with all of her mechanics on stage work together to create one of the most breathtaking scenes in concert history. Apart from the special effects, Swift’s music has been touching the hearts of people since 2006 with the release of her first album.
Her lyrics are nearly incomparable to those of any other artist. She uses language that perfectly sets scenes, describes emotion and connects to people in deep-cutting ways. There aren’t many singers who can write number one radio hits with lyrics like, “Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism like some kind of congressman?” (“Anti-Hero”). This incredible talent that Swift possesses only adds to why The Eras Tour, her first tour since 2018, is much more than a concert to her devoted listeners.
Complete with songs from all of Swift’s albums (not including her debut self-titled album), paired with her meaningful lyrics and intense vocals, she has created an event that everyone has heard about. Any person given the chance would be incredibly fortunate to experience this magical show that easily breaks the lead of the greatest tours of all time.
