Caffeine and Community

Newly-opened Wonder cafe provides more than simply coffee
Caffeine+and+Community

According to a study done by The Guardian, over 90% of new parents feel lonely after the birth of a child. Around 54% feel that they have no friends or support system. These feelings of isolation can be detrimental to the lives of parents and children.

To combat that loneliness, Katie Oestreich and Tristin Holzmann opened Wonder cafe in January, presenting a warm and inviting place for both parents and children. They feature a bright, colorful indoor playspace as well as coffee and snacks for parents to enjoy.

“We want Wonder to provide families with a space to feel supported,” co-founder Oestreich said. “Parents can catch up with friends over a cup of coffee while their children are distracted in a safe and engaging environment.”

Small tables with comfy seating surround the play area and the front counter, where parents can enjoy Wonder’s diverse coffee selection. Drip coffee, americanos, cold brews, lattes and frappucinos are all favorites. Wonder also has a variety of syrups, including unique ones like cookie butter, raspberry, irish cream, lavender and cinnamon bun. A coffee flight, a sampler platter of various coffees, also attracts attention from customers.

Food is also available, so visitors can have a snack without stopping their fun. “We offer a snack tray, a muffin tin filled [with] six different servings of child-friendly snacks,” co-founder Holzmann said. “You can pick which snacks you’d like included in your tray and fill out a small sheet, and we’ll craft a tray to your liking! We also offer small sandwiches and other finger foods.”

But the true centerpiece behind the success of Wonder is their indoor playplace. Bright colors, developmental aides and popular toys come together to create an enriching experience for all children.

The playplace is open during regular business hours on an hourly basis. It can also be rented outside of business hours for private parties and special events.

“We look forward to expanding our menus and toy offerings to better suit the community and new parents,” co-founder Oestreich said.

If you’d like to try their great coffee and playplace, Wonder is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. They can be contacted through phone (920) 907-9099 or online at wonderfdl.com.
